[Lunchtime “Genroku Lunch”: A lavish meal at an amazing price]

In front of the counter seats is a large painting of the evening scenery of the Ariake Sea. The painting seems to depict the restaurant’s belief that seafood from the Ariake Sea is freshly caught and used for cooking.

 “We aim for 100% customer satisfaction,” the shop’s pamphlet read. The Genroku Lunch served at lunchtime is exactly that. It includes three small dishes such as tamagoyaki and fried foods, nigiri sushi, miso soup with fillets of sea bass, a platter of five types of tempura, chawanmushi, salad, fruit… and the quality is sufficient. With such a luxurious menu, the reasonable price is surprising. For now, only local customers know about this lunch, but it will surely become popular once it becomes known. According to the owner, the secret behind the price is that “we are members of the Chikugo Chubu Fresh Fish Brokers Association and can directly participate in the fish market auction, so we can offer fresh fish at a low price.” The reason for offering a luxurious lunch at a low price is that “we want customers to know about our restaurant and come again in the evening.” Another popular lunch option is the “Sushi Lunch” which includes nine pieces of sushi.

The restaurant was founded 50 years ago. At the time, it was the only restaurant in Yanagawa to have a fish tank inside. It started out as a sushi restaurant, but since the current owner took over, they have also started serving kaiseki meals other than sushi. “We can provide kaiseki meals for memorials and celebrations, as well as bento boxes and bowls to suit any budget.” Run by a brisk and efficient owner, this restaurant is one that should be known not only by locals but also by tourists.
