[A Japanese restaurant facing a canal where donko boats pass by]

There was a painting of Yanagawa in the past on display inside the restaurant. “This house built on the water’s edge is where our restaurant is now. In the past, we built it right up to the edge of the canal.” The owner said this when he opened his Japanese restaurant in 2000. At the time, the restaurant was located in a different place. “We had more and more regular customers, so we wanted to be able to serve them closer to us,” he said, and renovated part of his house into a restaurant and moved in 2013. The tatami room in his house faces the canal where donko boats pass by, so the view is great, and by using this as seating, customers can now enjoy their meals while looking out. There is also an open deck, so when you look at the restaurant from outside, it has the feel of a riverside terrace in Gion, Kyoto. We even made a roof with the restaurant’s name written on it so that the restaurant can be seen from boats passing by.

Most of the customers are long-time regulars. This restaurant is unique in that it offers a unique service that other restaurants cannot imitate: the ingredients purchased by the restaurant are “prepared to be eaten as requested by the customer.” The owner, who says, “I’ve been devoted to Japanese cuisine since I was young,” has a strong commitment to fish dishes, and takes the extra effort to prepare them as sashimi after marinating them in kombu seaweed.

“The only thing I add is the seasoning of my smile!” the owner said with a smile. In the winter, they also serve hotpot dishes, and they also deliver bento lunches for memorial services and cherry blossom viewing parties. You can enjoy the atmospheric scenery and food no matter the occasion.
