Cafe de SATO
[An exquisite coffee shop where you can enjoy live music]
The shop has an exterior reminiscent of a mountain hut. Entering the shop via the approach, you’ll notice the warm wooden counter and wooden flooring. The owner was previously a civil servant. “I’ve always wanted to open a coffee shop.” To make this dream come true, he decided to start a business before retiring. When ordering a building from an architect he knew, his request was, “I want it to be like a house in a grove, and to be able to host live performances.” The shop was completed exactly to his request, and is equipped with a small stage and piano, where live performances are held every month. Not only local performers but performers from all over Kyushu come to the shop.
The coffee used at the shop is imported aged coffee beans that are “aged for two years, dehydrated, and roasted.” He says that “it has no unpleasant flavors, so it’s easy to drink and delicious.” The owner grinds the beans and brews the coffee using the cloth drip method. The most important thing to remember is to “keep the water temperature constant while brewing.” He says he concentrates all of his attention on where he’s pouring the coffee.
The concerts have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they will resume once the pandemic is over. I hope we can return to the wonderful experience of enjoying live music while sipping on some excellent coffee soon.
