Yakitori Jubei
[A yakitori restaurant loved by locals where you can enjoy your meal in a homely atmosphere]
When you enter the restaurant, you’ll see the owner’s dignified figure grilling yakitori. The yakitori, grilled to perfection over charcoal, is exceptionally delicious. This cozy restaurant, where you can relax even if you’re alone, moved to Kyomachi six years ago. Before that, it was in Saikumachi. Many of the customers are locals and families, and there are many regulars who have been coming here since they were children, bringing their children with them.
From the counter seats, you can see a display case lined with carefully crafted skewers. One of the fun things to do is to look at the skewers lined up and make a decision. In addition to salt, the yakitori skewers made with a secret sauce that has been added to since the restaurant opened are popular staples. The recommended final dish is grilled rice balls, which are usually made with white rice and topped with sho-sho (moromi), but the grilled rice balls smeared with sauce are a secret menu item that only regulars know about.
Dagojiru, a winter-only dish made by the owner’s mother for her regular customers, has been passed down through the generations and is still a beloved dish today.
Dagojiru soup, made with Yanagawa miso, is the perfect way to finish off a meal. It’s warm and comforting, and tastes just like home.
