Japanese Restaurant Shigechan

[Loved by locals for half a century in front of Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station]

The restaurant will soon celebrate half a century since its establishment. The owner’s father’s name is Shige-san. He was called “Shige-chan” as a child. His father opened an udon restaurant in front of Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station around 1973. He named the restaurant after his childhood nickname, “Shige-chan.” The udon restaurant eventually became “Taishu Cuisine Shige-chan” and is now “Washoku no Mise Shige-chan.” In 1999, it moved to its current location in the rotary in front of the station. Even under the current owner, the old and familiar customers still drop by. Located in front of the station, it is very convenient for gathering and going home. It is used by locals for year-end parties, New Year’s parties, class reunions, etc. Tourists can also drop by easily as it is in front of the station.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the number of banquets has decreased, but the restaurant is still focusing on catering and delivery. The restaurant’s recommendations are the “Ladies Set” and “Daily Lunch,” which are available until 3 p.m. In the evening, the “Evening Drink Set,” which includes a choice of draft beer, two cups of sake or two glasses of shochu, two small side dishes, and sashimi or grilled fish, is also popular.

This shop has remained the same since ancient times, and is affectionately known and loved by the people of Yanagawa as “Shige-chan.”
